Poking My Head Out

I don’t enjoy writing about the American president, as more than enough ink is spilled on that madman. I admit though, I’ve been worried of late that I’m growing numb to the onslaught of news and the active dissection of a democracy.

The reality is that nothing he does surprises me anymore and part of my brain just accepts this as normal. This is the reality, this is where we are. So I go about my day, caring for those around me and disengaging from the broader world.

Is that the right decision? Is my silence on issue after issue part of the problem?

I honestly don’t know.

But I did read something this morning that snapped me awake, with my first ‘what the fuck is wrong with this guy’ in a while.

Obviously, his recent obsession with ‘acquiring’ Greenland is batshit, as if acquiring a piece of a sovereign nation that didn’t want to be acquiring is anything short of ‘conquering’. It’s domination, imperialism, whatever you want to call it. You don’t just point to a place on a map and say ‘I want it’ and then get mad when it’s not given to you. That’s toddler behaviour, and should result in a long timeout.

What struck me this morning was this response to the Norwegian Prime Minister-

Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT»

Think how insane that is. All of it.

But the beginning, the ‘you didn’t give me a prize so I’m going to do war I guess’ is beyond comprehension. It’s crazy, there’s no other way to put it.

As for the boat thing? I wonder how he thinks America was colonoized.

I am worried for our future, for all of us, but this really reminded me of something I needed reminded me of-

This is not normal. This is not okay.

Even if your head is in the sand, it’s okay to poke your head out now and then and say-

This is fucked.
