Bright Side of Life
I’m not an optimistic or a glass half-full kinda guy by nature, but every now and then, my pragmatic ass forces the rest of me to look on the positive side of things.
That in turn, lead me to the, are there any bright sides to the Trump presidency I can find?
And lo’ and behold, I found it. The bright spot in this 103 year administration that’s taken place over 11 months.
You.
Me.
We are the bright spots, we are the positive side of things.
Not because of who we are, or what our politics are, how different or similar they are, but the very fact that we’re talking about it. Openly, honestly and often. To any bystander, it’s clear to see how many more people have taken an active interest in politics and the world around us than in previous years.
Suddenly, we’re not just talking about Game of Thrones episodes at dinner. No, we’re still talking about that, but we’re also talking about Climate Change. North Korea. Saudi Arabia. Brexit. Immigration. Tax Reform.
We’re not just being passengers in the Starship Democracy, we’re trying to Captain it, or at the very least, Wesley Crusher it.
And yes, a great many people are getting their information from poor sources, but I choose not to discuss that today. Today, I am encouraged that more people are interested in politics, more than I’ve seen in my lifetime.
While an ignorant vote matters the same as an informed one, I have to believe that the informed ones will be more numerous, and lead to better decisions going forward.
So the bright side of the Trump presidency? Us, because less apathy will lead to more empathy.
And that will lead to a better tomorrow.

Quote of the Day
“The tyranny of a prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy. “
