An Honest Conversation

There’s no easy way to say this, to admit this to you, the public, but with a renewed interest in blogging comes the need for real transparency.

So here’s the thing-

I got fat.

Like, not TLC Special fat, but the biggest I’ve been in my almost 5 decades on this planet. And to be honest, it’s not that I’m rounder that’s the real problem. It’s everything else.

I feel slower, more tired. I’m not sleeping well. Noises come out of me when doing simple tasks that I do not care for. Overall, I just haven’t been feeling like me. Fortunately, I’m finally in the headspace to do something about it.

3 weeks ago I got back to the gym, and I’m there 4-6 times a week for at least an hour, doing a mix of cardio and strength training. Turns out I really like the elliptical machine as long as I can re-watch episodes of Star Trek: Voyager while doing it.

And last week I made a change that will probably make the most difference in my life. I stopped snacking, and I stopped eating past 8pm. I’m finding it incredibly difficult, to be honest, and there’s something special about a bowl of popcorn at midnight, but I know I need to focus on meals.

So why tell you? The public?

I just need a little accountability, and when I write things down, they tend to become real.

So welcome to the era of Sohmer 3.0, exercising again, eating better and only drinking energy drinks where my wife can’t see.
