News Rage

Part of the fun of being a news junkie, as one is, is trying to piece a full story together from all of it’s parts. A news story, more than anything else, is a puzzle. You pick the pieces from as many sources as you can to try and give you that full picture.

For me, that’s always meant listening, watching and reading from all sides of the political spectrum. It means that in the morning, on my way to work, I constantly switch my XM radio between BBC, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, Bloomberg, NPR and CSPAN.

Most of the time, I listen quietly, taking in as many viewpoints as I can, trying to put together that possible.

From time to time though, something will continue to pop up that drives me bat-shit crazy; to the point where I’m yelling at the radio while the other commuters around me keep their distance.

Lately, the target of my rage has been FOX News, but not for the reasons you might think.

In almost every block of programming on FOX, there’s always at least one person who will say something to the effect of ‘Why is the mainstream media not covering this, or giving it the attention they should?’.

To which, no matter how many times it happens, I scream:

‘YOU ARE THE FUCKING MAINSTREAM MEDIA. YOU ARE MAIN-EST OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA. YOU ARE THE #1 NEWS NETWORK IN NORTH AMERICA. YOU HAVE BEEN #1 FOR 141 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS. YOU THINK THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA SHOULD COVER A STORY? SO FUCKING COVER IT.’

Anyhow, I don’t get why nobody wants to drive with me to work.
