Larchive Friday – Porter di DeSouza
Fridays, we open the Larchives, Lar’s extensive archive of art work oddities, and share a few pieces. Sometimes there will be a theme, or a reason behind the choices. Other times there will be none.
Looking through Lar’s haunted vault of art past, I came across this piece titled “Canvas FULL CAST Lar CLR”
My initial thought was “That’s not a Lar piece, that’s clearly a Chad Porter”. For those not in the know, Lar joined Least I Could Do as the full time artist in its third year, replacing Chad. However, knowing Lar’s unending talent and the fluidity with which he can adapt to styles (source: his parodies and mash-ups on social media), maybe this was some test to prove he could mimic Chad’s style if that was the preferred direction. So I sent him the piece to get the story.
His reply from stately DeSouza manor:
“Yes, those are entirely Chad’s. I think they were references for the large vector banner I had to make for the trip Sohmer and he made to Connecticon. I think I enlarged the group shot and then redrew it as a vector file. It was a complicated piece and made my old machine at the time really chug 😊
“For interest’s sake, the first LICD cover? Chad supplied the sketch then I inked/painted it. The second cover is entirely me emulating his Rayne and painting the cathedral ceiling etc.”
So that was a fun discovery. Lar’s fingers have been in more LICD pies than I thought.
The covers in question.
If you’re missing these or other LICD merch, there’s a big sale in the Blind Ferret Shop starting Monday. Some at frankly unheard of prices.
